World Food AwardsEurope’s leading flat-bread company Mission Foods, has today been recognised for its contribution to the World Foods sector, by becoming one of only three finalists in the Madhu’s Catering Supplier of the Year category at this year’s World Food Awards.

The Awards, now in their third year, have been created by the World Foods Association and recognise not only the incredible growth within this sector, but also the diversity of cultures and communities that the industry is inspired by.

The winners of the World Food Awards will be announced at a glittering gala ceremony hosted by comedy legend Lenny Henry on Saturday 1st October at London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel.

Fraser Chynoweth, Mission Foods Head of Foodservice UK and Ireland, says of the selection: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of the finalists in this category. The World Food Awards have now set a standard for all of us that want to create products and services for one of the fastest growing industries in the UK. Their stamp of approval adds a lot to our brand and our customers need to now that our world foods are authentic, of high quality and respected within the industry.”

Proudly waving the flag for Mexico, Mission Foods has made great strides in raising the profile of authentic Mexican cuisine, which dates back to Aztec times. Mexican Cuisine is the fastest growing cuisine in the UK, growing 10-20% a year and already accounting for 15% of the world food market, third only to Indian and Chinese food. In response to the changing landscape, Mission Foods has quickly stepped up its UK operations, to ensure the catering industry keeps abreast of the rising demand.

Internationally Mission Foods is the world’s largest producer of authentic tortilla wraps – producing more than 75 million wraps per day. They are made from genuine Mexican presses, using the finest ingredients and created to be tender and pliable, making them easier to roll and fold without cracking or separating.

Last year they partnered with Flavours of Mexico (FOM) to promote authentic Mexican food in the UK and most recently Mission Foods became sponsors of Channel 5’s new series Mexican Food Made Simple, presented by Thomasina Miers – author, chef and co-founder of the award-winning Mexican street food restaurant Wahaca.
